Es rauscht dorthin zu mahnen, zu ihr der Väter Geist,           She roars[rushes] to remind with spirits, of forefathers late
Trotz aller Not ein Ahnen, das deutsche Zukunft heißt.          Despite struggle it remains, that idea called German fate
           
Sind wir auch fremd geworden, euch Brüdern aus dem Reich,       We may have become strangers, to you brothers from the Reich
Aus West und Süd und Norden, das Banner blieb sich gleich.      But Western, South and Northern, the flag remained alike
           
Ob wir auch hier verderben, das kümmere euch nicht,             If we are to perish, you won't shed a tear
Die Fahne zu vererben, ist unsere letzte Pflicht.               To pass on our banner, is our final duty here
